This is awesome, Andy Peatling who created BuddyPress is now a full time employee of Automattic! BuddyPress is an addon to WordPress MU that allows WordPress MU to function more as a social networking software with features such as built in gravtar/user pic and internal messaging system. It was a shame when Andy had originally announced he was discontinuing the project because of time limitations, but now Automattic has brought him on board to focus on this! Read more here and here. Also check out ChickSpeak, the site he built using WordPress MU as a social networking site for the ladies, which is amazing!
